#3 Research Question: What is the effectiveness of Internet Cafes in Third World Nations?

Introduction

As I sit in class and I learn about the history of the internet and its progressiveness, I cannot help but think. What about African countries and other 3rd world countries? While we are now struggling on how to control and utilize the internet, these countries are struggling to access the internet. It lead me to wonder: why is internet

Information found

I found an article on ProQuest Historical Newspaper discussing why internet is not effective and how Africa has yet to have its “boom”. The article discusses how accessibility is limited, the high expenses of computer, computers are mainly used by government officials and private businesses, but most of all there’s a “lack of equipment”

It was interesting to see the reasons for a lack of effectiveness was a lack of resources which is the one of the foundations of the internet. The article enlightens on how the internet, despite how widespread and suddenly it progressed, is still a new, preliminary innovation and is developing. However, the article also mentions how there is a small, but growing Web cultured crowd in certain West African countries

Personal Introduction

Greetings. My name is Kallista Zormelo, I’m a freshman at Mason. I am Communications major with specialization in Media Production and Criticism and a minor in Film and Media Studies. I am considering a double minor in Spanish. I am Liberian and moved to Maryland when I was five years old. I want to be a film director. My favourite movie of all time is The Lion King. I am technological infant. I only know the basics of technology, so finding how to use HTMLs will be interesting. I know that knowing how to use HTMLs is a necessity in society nowadays. Three potential historical topics that I am interested in are: 1) technology affecting print media/journalism and how print media is adjusting to the significant changes; 2) how the changes in technology throughout the past will influence future use; 3) changes in laws that will help protect Internet users and restrict abuse of free knowledge.
